It's never too late to try up things, especially in doing something you've always wanted. I am fond with arts and crafts, I even collect stationaries and fancy notebooks and I have tried to do Lettering for so many times but time doesn't work with me, a spare time can be a good start for a good thing, so let's start with:
Cath's 7 Calligraphy Statements
1. You can even start on a Scratch Paper when trying your first lettering stroke, but a good/well designed notebook can help you combine/collect final outputs of your artwork. It can be your own inspiration to do more lettering/drawings by personalizing it or picking your favorite color.
2. You can check the internet for more inspiration. You can start by copying different letterings you've searched from google images.

3. Find a pen that will suit you and your desired outcome for your mini project but also suits your budget (It can have Round Tip or a Flat Tip). It is an important tool in lettering/Calligraphy but remember that you're the one who put the force on a pen, so don't ever blame your pens. 
5. One Error can be a good way to success. Each of us has their own stroke, the more unique, the more better

6. You can start with just one brush pen. Try and excercise often, I'm sure you'll get the perfect outcome for you. 
7. Never stop Believing in Yourself, remember: Everything is Possible!
